Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist

We are seeking a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to lead the delivery of a paediatric liaison mental health service, providing specialist assessment and intervention for young people in acute and community settings.

Role Overview

This role provides clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary Child & Adolescent Mental Health team, delivering liaison psychiatry services across emergency, paediatric, and general healthcare environments.

The postholder will support young people (0-18 years) presenting with complex mental health needs in the context of physical illness and acute presentations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary assessment and delivery of child & adolescent liaison psychiatry services
• Provide specialist input for emergency presentations including self-harm, psychosis, trauma, and acute distress
• Manage co-morbid mental and physical health conditions, including adherence and psychosocial support
• Work collaboratively with paediatric teams, emergency departments, and community mental health services
• Deliver risk assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical care
• Supervise and support junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, training, and service development

Requirements

• Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (or eligibility)
• Experience in child & adolescent mental health, ideally including liaison psychiatry
• Strong expertise in risk assessment and management of complex cases
• Demonstrated leadership and multidisciplinary team working skills

Desirable

• Experience in acute hospital liaison settings
• Involvement in teaching, audit, or research activities
