The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, patient-focused, and experienced Consultant Dermatologist to provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of a broad spectrum of dermatological conditions.

The successful candidate will manage patients across medical, surgical, cosmetic, and paediatric dermatology, while supporting efficient care pathways and contributing specialist expertise in the management of complex cases. The role requires close collaboration with specialist clinicians, nursing teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure the highest standards of patient care, clinical governance, and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive dermatology consultations and detailed skin examinations for patients presenting with a wide range of dermatological conditions.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage complex dermatology cases across medical, surgical, cosmetic, and paediatric dermatology.
  • Provide expert consultant-level advice and management plans for complex or escalated referrals.
  • Support the development and delivery of efficient, evidence-based dermatology care pathways.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical records in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, integrated patient care.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in Dermatology.

AND

  • A minimum of one year of postgraduate training and experience in Paediatric Dermatology.

Qualifications

  • Completion of recognised specialist training in Dermatology within an EU or UK jurisdiction.
  • Board Certification, Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST), or equivalent specialist qualification recognised within the EU or UK.
  • Eligibility to practise independently as a Consultant Dermatologist in Ireland.

Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience working at Consultant Dermatologist level within a hospital, specialist clinic, community dermatology service, or comparable healthcare setting.
  • Significant experience in the assessment and management of a broad range of dermatological conditions, including:
  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Chronic inflammatory skin diseases
  • Skin infections
  • Skin lesion assessment
  • Complex medical dermatology presentations
  • Essential experience in paediatric dermatology

Desirable Experience

  • Minor surgical dermatology procedures.
  • Cryotherapy.
  • Teledermatology services and remote patient management pathways.
  • Clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
