This position is a community-based Consultant role within Mayo Mental Health Service, providing general adult psychiatry care to the Westport/Ballinrobe sector (Sector 3), serving a population of approximately 33,000.

You will join a progressive and multidisciplinary team within a service recognized for its strong emphasis on recovery, innovation, and quality improvement. You’ll work collaboratively with other general adult and subspecialty psychiatrists, providing leadership to your Community Mental Health Team while contributing to academic activities and service development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and case management within the Community Mental Health Team.

  • Deliver outpatient, domiciliary, and review clinics, including multidisciplinary meetings.

  • Support continuity of care, including occasional inpatient responsibilities during cover periods.

  • Engage in service planning, clinical audits, and policy implementation.

  • Contribute to teaching, training, and supervision of NCHDs and other healthcare staff.

  • Participate in local and national academic and quality improvement programmes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Essential: Registration as a specialist in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of Ireland.

  • Desirable: Previous experience in community psychiatry, leadership roles, and participation in research or quality improvement initiatives.

Working Relationships

  • Report to the Executive Clinical Director, Mayo MHS.

  • Collaborate closely with the Inpatient Consultant Psychiatrist, sub-specialty colleagues, and primary care providers.

  • Line management responsibility for 2 NCHDs and leadership of the community multidisciplinary team.
