Job description

We are currently seeking a Consultant General Physician with an interest in Virtual Ward and Acute Medicine to join a well-established hospital group in Ireland.

This role combines General Internal Medicine, Acute Medicine, and leadership of a Virtual Ward service, supporting modern models of care focused on admission avoidance, ambulatory pathways, and remote patient monitoring. The successful candidate will provide consultant-level oversight for patients managed through the Virtual Ward, conduct regular patient reviews, and contribute to the development of innovative care pathways integrating hospital and community services.

The position also includes participation in the Acute Medical Unit and general medical on-call rota, supervising junior doctors, contributing to multidisciplinary care, and supporting high-quality, efficient patient flow. Opportunities for teaching, audit, research, and service development are also available.

Requirements

• Specialist Registration in General Internal Medicine (or eligibility)

• Experience in acute hospital medicine

• Interest in service development and innovative care models
