Consultant Histopathologist

Job description

We are looking for a Consultant Histopathologist to work in University Hospital Waterford.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality diagnostic histopathology services, including autopsy work.

• Contribute to teaching and supervision of pathology trainees and medical students.

• Support multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) and national screening programmes.

• Lead and support quality assurance, audits, and INAB accreditation efforts.

• Engage in clinical research and continuous service improvement.

• Work collaboratively with hospital management and clinical leads.

Essential Requirements

• Specialist registration with the Medical Council of Ireland in Histopathology (or eligible within 180 days of interview).

• Proven experience in diagnostic histopathology including autopsy and screening services.

• Teaching and audit experience; ability to support postgraduate training and research.

• Strong communication and leadership skills in a multidisciplinary environment.

• Willingness to provide on-call cover and travel as required.

Desirable

• Subspecialty interest in Gastrointestinal, Cytopathology, Dermatopathology, or Urological Pathology.

• Experience in clinical governance, laboratory accreditation (ISO 15189), and quality improvement.
