We are seeking a motivated and patient-focused Consultant Dermatologist to provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of a broad range of dermatological conditions. The role encompasses medical, surgical, cosmetic, and paediatric dermatology, with opportunities to support service development and clinical excellence.

The Consultant Dermatologist will play a key role in managing complex dermatology cases, providing expert clinical guidance on escalated referrals, and working closely with specialist GPs, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

This position is ideally suited to a clinician who is committed to clinical excellence, patient safety, continuous improvement, and collaborative working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed dermatology consultations and comprehensive skin examinations for patients presenting with a wide range of skin conditions.
  • Assess, diagnose, manage, and treat complex dermatology patients across medical, surgical, and cosmetic.
  • Provide consultant-level clinical input for cases escalated by Dermatology Specialist GPs, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop appropriate management plans, treatment pathways, and onward referrals where required.
  • Support the delivery of efficient and effective dermatology services in line with established clinical governance standards.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical records and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with consultant colleagues, specialist GPs, nursing teams, administrative staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, audits, quality assurance initiatives, and service improvement projects.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of safe, effective, and patient-centred dermatology services.

Essential Criteria

  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the speciality of Dermatology.
  • A minimum of one year of experience post-training in Dermatology.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of recognised specialist training in Dermatology in the UK or Malta.
  • Demonstrated experience working at Consultant Dermatologist level in a hospital, specialist clinic, community dermatology service, or comparable healthcare setting.
  • Proven expertise in diagnosing and managing a broad range of dermatological conditions, including:
  • Skin lesion assessment
  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Skin infections
  • Chronic inflammatory skin diseases
  • Complex medical dermatology presentations
  • Excellent clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and quality improvement.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience performing minor surgical dermatology procedures.
  • Experience in cryotherapy treatments.
  • Familiarity with teledermatology pathways and remote dermatology services.
  • Experience contributing to service development, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
