Limerick University Hospital (LUH) is a major acute teaching hospital within the UL Hospitals Group and serves as a Model 4 hospital for the Mid-West region. With approximately 500+ inpatient beds, LUH provides a full range of emergency, medical, and surgical services and is a key centre for trauma, emergency medicine, and specialist care.

The Emergency Department at LUH is one of the busiest in the country, delivering consultant-led emergency care to a large and diverse population. The hospital is closely affiliated with the University of Limerick, supporting education, training, research, and continuous service development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality emergency medical care to patients within the hospital’s catchment population.

• Demonstrate professionalism, effective leadership, and strong teamwork skills within the Emergency Department.

• Oversee clinical management and provide strategic direction for the ED alongside Consultant colleagues.

• Take responsibility for developing, implementing, and supervising systems of care for all ED patients.

• Provide training, supervision, and clinical support to the Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor (NCHD) team.

• Offer guidance and ongoing support to nursing and allied health professionals working in the unit.

Requirements

• Eligible for Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).

• Relevant experience working as an Emergency Medicine Specialist/Consultant (2+ years)

• Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and service improvement.

Salary

€233,000 – €280,000 per annum
