Gastroenterology Consultant

Job description

We are currently seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a well-established hospital service in the southwest of Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced doctors work within a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to patients across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The successful candidate will provide consultant-led care for patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver disease, and functional gastrointestinal disorders. The role will involve participation in general gastroenterology services, endoscopy, and acute medical care, working closely with surgical, radiology, pathology, and specialist nursing teams.

Key responsibilities will include providing outpatient consultations, performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, contributing to inpatient gastroenterology care, and supporting the development of gastroenterology services in the region. The consultant will also supervise and support non-consultant hospital doctors, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, and contribute to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

The position offers opportunities for teaching, mentoring junior doctors and medical students, and participating in service development to enhance patient care pathways.

Requirements

Specialist Registration in Gastroenterology (or eligibility for registration)

Experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy

Experience managing a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver diseases

Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care and multidisciplinary teamwork
