Specialist General Practitioner (Full-Time)
Location: Co. Carlow
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity
A well-established and expanding General Practice in Co. Carlow is seeking an experienced General Practitioner to join its clinical team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This position offers the opportunity to combine traditional family medicine with nursing home care while playing a key role in the delivery and ongoing development of chronic disease services. The successful candidate will work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment focused on delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare to the local community.
The role would suit a GP who is confident managing both GMS and private patient populations and who enjoys contributing to service improvement and innovation within primary care.
Main Duties
- Deliver comprehensive primary care services to both GMS and private patients.
- Provide medical support and clinical oversight to residents of affiliated nursing homes.
- Undertake regular nursing home visits as part of planned patient care.
- Support and further develop Chronic Disease Management programmes in line with HSE guidelines.
- Manage acute presentations, preventative healthcare and long-term medical conditions.
- Work closely with nursing, administrative and allied healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Ensure clinical records and patient documentation are maintained to a high standard.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit activities and quality initiatives.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of services and care pathways within the practice.
Essential Requirements
- Specialist Registration in General Practice with the Irish Medical Council.
- Eligibility to provide services under the General Medical Services (GMS) Scheme.
- Irish Experience
- Strong experience caring for GMS patient populations.
- Experience working within HSE-funded Chronic Disease Management programmes.
- Good understanding of Irish primary care services and GMS structures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Full clean driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in nursing home medicine.
- Interest in elderly care and management of complex chronic conditions.
- Experience participating in quality improvement or service development projects.
- Interest in community-based and integrated healthcare services.
