What Is Primary-Source Verification for IMC?
The IMC requires all overseas doctors to have their medical qualifications verified directly with the institution that issued them. This is called primary-source verification.
It’s simply a way of confirming that your medical degree and documents are genuine. Think of it as an internationally recognised stamp of trust that reassures the IMC and Irish employers that your credentials are valid.
EPIC – The Tool Doctors Have Been Using for Verification
Up until now, most international doctors registered with the IMC using EPIC (Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials).
- EPIC is managed by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
- It connects directly with your medical school or issuing body.
- Your verified documents can be used not only in Ireland but also in many other countries worldwide.
What Has Changed: EPIC and MyIntealth
As of 12 August 2025, ECFMG became part of Intealth, a non-profit organisation supporting global medical education and credentialing.
This means EPIC is now accessed through MyIntealth, a secure online platform that houses both EPIC and other ECFMG/Intealth services.
Here’s a breakdown:
- Intealth – The umbrella organisation integrating ECFMG and FAIMER.
- ECFMG – The division still handling international medical graduate (IMG) credential verification.
- EPIC – The service that builds and stores verified credential portfolios.
- MyIntealth – The new online platform where you access EPIC.
If You Already Have an EPIC Account
For doctors who started verification before the change:
- Account Transfer – Your EPIC account has been automatically moved to MyIntealth. Log in using the same email you used for EPIC.
- Identity Verification –
- If you already had a valid EPIC Identification Form (EIF), nothing further is needed.
- If not, you’ll complete the MyIntealth verification process. (Free for accounts created on/after January 10, 2018; otherwise $100.)
- Credentials – Previously verified documents are transferred. Any unfinished submissions must now be completed in MyIntealth.
- Fees (from August 2025):
- Account setup: $30
- Verification per credential: $100
- EPIC report: First report per credential is free, extra copies are $50
Important Deadlines for Doctors Registering with the IMC
Important Deadlines:
- EPIC Account Establishment: August 6, 2025
- EIF notarization: August 10, 2025
- Submitting credentials for verification: August 6, 2025
- Missed deadlines may require resubmission in MyIntealth.
After these dates, all verification must be done through MyIntealth.
